Market Report - September 7

It was almost chilly this morning, opening day for the Ravens, the day after Hanna hit and the first Sunday in September. Somehow, the market smelled a little different this morning, maybe from the barbaque smokers...

I didn't get loads of pix today because I knew my camera's battery was running out of juice. Okra's back again. It's such a tricky vegetable because if you do it wrong it's just flat out gross! However, dried okra pods make an interesting decoration on an autumn wreath or in an arrangement.
We stopped by Neopol to get some fresh mozzarella for Julie, and as always, they had their beautiful little pies. They're always so artistically made.
When I got home, I was checking on my "garden" after yesterday's storm, and saw a fat old bumblebee on the flowers of my mint plant. I think a mint-scented honey sounds wonderful! Stop over to my other blog to see some pictures of the Inner Harbour after Hanna and the MD National Guard Flyover before the Ravens' Game.

I miss the JFX market! I love your weekly photos and reports :) Although I could have done without the closeup shot of the bee - I am terrified of bees!!!

And I was just going to say how much I liked the bee picture! Such great detail.

I'm always looking for things to do with okra (besides deep fry it like we did in Virginia!).

I saw a Cajun chef once demonstrate how NOT to make okra gross. He said the thing to do is just to make one single slicing cut through it - that's it the back-and-forth sawing motion that stirs up the goo and makes it awful. So...try it. Just one big WHACK and let it be.

The JFX get-together is still on for this weekend, yes? Since I now work on Saturday mornings I can no longer make it to Waverly's on Saturdays, so I must get all my farmers market fixes from the 83.

Ahhhh... two different thoughts!

I haven't made this, but my sister recommends it: okra rellenos! Blanch okra, slit and drain, stuff with cheese, bread with egg wash and corn meal/flour mixture, fry 'till brown and crispy.

I could possibly get behind okra rellenos!
